Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a viral disease affecting the liver. The virus is passed on by sexual contact and also by contact with blood. There is also a risk to drug addicts if they use dirty needles. Babies can also be infected by their mother at birth.

There is now an effective vaccine and in some countries all children are vaccinated as infants if their parents give permission.
